Oliver is 5 months

When I think of my little guy, one word comes to mind: pleasing.

Everything about him is so pleasing. The roundness of his soft cheeks, the warm dark honey of his eyes, the chubbiness of his thighs and bottoms, the floppy largeness of his ears, the swath of hair (the combover in the back), the way he reaches for me, his loud vocalizations, the crinkle of his nose when he smiles and locks eyes...it is all so very pleasing to me.

Oliver is now almost sitting up...lots of falling over but LOVES the new perspective. Yesterday, he discovered his feet (which is REALLY funny to me because he discovered Evan Roux's feet two days before that...is he so chubby he can't see his toes(-:)???

Oliver is very vocal, and has a lot to say, especially when it's time to eat and he sees the breast! Loud, grunty, sing-songy sounds make us laugh and smile.

He's swiping accurately, and grabbing anything around. He's tolerating greater stretches of tummy time. He has rice cereal once daily, although his doctor just approved us to bump up to two meals per day, and add fruit and vegetables! It's so exciting, all the tastes in the world! I'm happy to share them with him and see how he responds.

Oliver is 4 months old!

Oh my!

It's been 4 amazing months of getting to know Oliver, and it's been such fun.

He is round, soft, solid, hairy, still slightly floppy (esp. those ears), giggly, babbly fun!

The epitome of Happy Bouncing Boy is he...generally in a great mood, full of smiles. Lately his exuberence for us overtakes him, and he grunts, smiles, and buries his head in our chests. Such a love!

All of Ana's loving gestures, and sweet talk has paid off too. He lights up when she enters the room. He's still trying to figure out Brother El, who sweetly coos then pokes him in the eye.

Peekaboo!

Fine motor skills are coming, as you swipe; gross motor skills look great (you're so solid!), as you work to sit up and get in airplane pose while on your tummy.

A whole new world of eating was introduced on Sunday when you had your first taste of rice cereal. Three infant spoonfuls, and you were crashing hard. I guess it's the equivalent of a porterhouse steak to one so small.

But I ordered booby.

Oliver at Two Months!

The smiles have come, and we are all so charmed with this little guy.

Olive at two months is chubby as can be, with a shock of black spiky hair on top of his head.

His ears are big, and often smushed by his shoulders when they're up by his shoulders (reminded of random Christmas paegent song--"the lamb with the curly horn?").

Oliver loves his bath, and is quiet, wide-eyed and keenly aware of what's happening at this time.

He's as fat as a tick, and already into his 3-6 month clothes.

I am loving each moment of him, and am longing for my other two when they were tiny. I don't think I knew what I was doing enough to fully appreciate and enjoy them when they were this small. I'm to return to work in 3 weeks, and am already missing him.

I mentioned to Dr. Hales my concern that one eye appears smaller (and the tear duct appears deeper) than the other. The other eye appears to have a clogged tear duct (which Ana had and outgrew at 1 yr.). Tonight (after a 3 hour wait for El's eye doctor!!!) I asked the ped. ophtamologist about it. He says there's no cataract (which can happen when there's asymmetry), and he'll check on it at 6 months, but that most babies outgrow this initial disproportion.

Here's to looking in those eyes without worry.
