On this day, I was actually able to SIT in the FRONT yard for a period of 20 minutes.
I believe it has been 3 years (THREE YEARS) since I've sat in the front yard, with children, without being hot on their heels.
More specifically, being hot on Elliot's heels, as he tears up the sidewalk, going exactly where we tell him not to go, or running toward the street, or our neighbor's front porch. It's a long road, but some things get easier (as others' get harder?). I'm relieved. And looking forward to fewer limitations to the places we'll go.
Now granted, since then, we've seen many more moments of the same flight risk behavior, too many times. But I see the silver lining and it's liberating.
